# Alexplains

> Explanations that finally make sense. One-on-one math and physics tutoring for grades 3–12, delivered online anywhere and in person where our instructors are based.

Alexplains is a tutoring business, not a single tutor. It began with in-person sessions, added online teaching, and is now growing its instructor team so students in more places can be matched with someone who genuinely knows their course. Every session is one-to-one; we do not run group classes.

- Subjects: mathematics (elementary through AP Calculus), physics (conceptual through AP Physics C), SAT and ACT math
- Format: strictly one-to-one. Online sessions include a Google Meet link
- Locations: Online — anywhere; Daytona Beach, FL
- Session lengths: 60, 90, 120 minutes
- Rates (provisional): from $30/hour online, from $35/hour in person. The exact rate depends on the instructor, the course, the duration and whether the session is online or in person
- First consultation: free, 30 minutes, online only
- Booking window: up to 14 days ahead, closing 12 hours before a session
- Hours: 08:00–20:00 America/New_York
- Cancellation: free outside 12 hours; $5 inside, waived for illness
- A parent or guardian books, and is included on every calendar invite

## Subjects taught

### Mathematics
- Elementary math (Grades 3–5): Arithmetic, fractions, decimals and early problem solving, with the aim of arriving in middle school without gaps.
- Pre-Algebra (Middle school): The bridge into algebra: negative numbers, ratios, expressions and the idea that a letter can stand for a number.
- Algebra I & II (Middle and high school): Linear equations, polynomials, quadratics, graphing, exponentials and logarithms — turning rules that look arbitrary into steps that follow from each other.
- Geometry (High school): Spatial reasoning, proofs and the properties of shapes, with particular attention to writing a proof that actually argues something.
- Pre-Calculus (High school): Functions, trigonometry, sequences and limits — the material that determines whether calculus feels reasonable or impossible.
- AP Calculus AB & BC (Advanced Placement): Limits, derivatives, integrals and series, taught with an eye on both conceptual understanding and the specific shape of AP exam questions.

### Physics
- Conceptual Physics (High school): The principles of the physical world with the emphasis on understanding rather than heavy algebra.
- AP Physics 1 & 2 (Algebra-based): College-level algebra-based physics: mechanics, work and energy, electricity and magnetism, with extensive AP problem-solving practice.
- AP Physics C: Mechanics (Calculus-based): Calculus-based mechanics, bridging the gap between calculus as a maths course and calculus as a description of how things move.

### Test preparation
- SAT / ACT math (College admissions): Targeted preparation aimed at the specific question types costing the most points, rather than a general review of everything.
