Privacy

The short version

We collect the minimum needed to run a tutoring session, we get it from parents rather than from students, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising. If you want your information removed, ask us and we will remove it.

Who we are

Alexplains is a tutoring service offering one-on-one math and physics instruction, online and in person. You can reach us any time through our contact form. We deliberately publish no email address anywhere on this site — published addresses get harvested, and the form keeps our inbox usable so real messages get answered.

We do not collect information from students

Our booking form is written for, and intended to be completed by, a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child. If you believe a student has submitted information to us without a parent's involvement, tell us and we will delete it.

What we collect, and why

• Parent contact details — name, email, phone. Used to confirm the session, send the calendar invite, and reach you if something changes.
• Student first name, grade and current class — so the instructor knows who they are meeting and what to prepare.
• What you would like to work on — so the session is useful from the first minute.
• How you heard about us — optional, and used only to understand what is working.
• Session records — dates, durations, and payment status, kept so we can bill accurately and answer questions later.

We do not ask for a student's last name, date of birth, school, or home address unless a session is in person and an address is genuinely needed.

Google account data

Instructors connect their Google Calendar so that sessions can be scheduled without double-booking. When an instructor grants access, we request only two narrow permissions:

• Free/busy access — to see which times are already taken. We read only whether a block of time is busy. We do not read event titles, guests, descriptions, or attachments.
• Calendar events access — to create, update and cancel the tutoring sessions booked through this site, and to attach a Google Meet link.

We store the access credential in encrypted form solely to keep the calendar in sync. An instructor can disconnect at any time from their Google account settings or by emailing us, and we delete the stored credential.

Limited Use. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer this data to others except as needed to provide the service, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not allow humans to read it except with the account holder's explicit permission, to resolve a specific support issue, or where required by law.

Payments

Payments are made through Venmo. We never see or store card numbers, bank details, or Venmo credentials — those stay with Venmo. We record only whether a session has been paid for.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to count page views and to see which parts of this site lead to a booking. It sets cookies in your browser, and Google processes that data for us.

Google Signals and ad personalisation are both switched off on our property, so this measures traffic to this site rather than feeding an advertising profile of you elsewhere. We run no advertising trackers, and we do not use any of it for advertising.

What we record is the action, not the person: which subject was picked, how long a session is, online or in person, and what a booking cost. Names, email addresses, phone numbers, student names and anything you type into a form are never sent to Google Analytics.

If you would rather not be counted, a tracker blocker or Google’s opt-out browser add-on will stop it, and nothing on this site will stop working.

Who we share with

Nobody, except the services required to run a session: Google (calendar invite and Meet link, and the analytics described above), our email provider (confirmations and reminders), and our hosting provider. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.

How long we keep it

Session records are kept while you are an active family and for a reasonable period afterwards for tax and bookkeeping purposes. Beyond that, or on request, we delete.

Your choices

Send us a message to see what we hold about your family, correct it, or have it deleted. There is no account to cancel and no hoops to jump through — asking is enough.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes affecting current families, email you.
